Premier League: 15 Most Disappointing Players Of The Season So Far

5. Shay Given

Shay Given I have to say, I really tried not include Shay Given in this list, as for just over a decade, he has been the most consistent goalkeeper in the Premier League and this consistency, coupled with his dedicated attitude, makes him the model footballer for many aspiring footballers in England. However, there is no doubt that ever since Given left Man City back in 2011 to go to Aston Villa, he has not been anywhere near the footballer he was at Tyneside or in Manchester. Now 36, Given has lost some of the athleticism and agility that made him a world class shot stopper, and this season he has added a degree of uncertainty to his game, as well as making an increasing number of unforced handling errors which weren't apparent during most of his career. In fact, Given's early season form was so poor that after two games in the Premier League in September, he was dropped with immediate effect by Paul Lambert and replaced by the American Brad Guzan and he hasn't been seen since in the League. I would argue that Given his current form, retirement isn't far around the corner for Shay, and I think it's a shame he hasn't ended his illustrious career on a high.
