Premier League's Most Overrated Players By Position

4. CAM - Mesut Özil - Arsenal

Mesut Özil is a tough one to analyse because, at this point, it's hard to tell if many Arsenal fans still rate him that highly. He's injury-prone and been in-and-out of favour with both Wenger and Emery, and this season has been yet another by-the-numbers one - and those numbers aren't great.

Mesut Özil is supposedly a playmaker and has been at Arsenal since 2014, but he's never really hit the heights expected of him. Granted in his second season, he did manage to rack-up an impressive 19 assists, but since then it's been all single digits. Mesut Özil has never quite warranted his hefty £42 million price tag, and seems to be a suck on Arsenal's wages more than anything else.

Similarly to United fans with Pogba, some Arsenal die-hards still claim Özil is quality. However, as we touched upon with Bellerin, Kovačić, and Pogba, fans have a tendency to get excited about signing name players from Madrid, Barcelona, etc., but those clubs don't sell brilliant players. Arsenal should look to replace Özil this summer with a player like Paulo Dybala, Marco Reus, Kai Havertz, or even James Maddison.
