3. Robin Van Persie Is Only Human
For long swathes of this current season, it has appeared as though new signing Robin van Persie simply cannot put a single foot wrong. He has plundered 19 goals in the league to send United straight to the top of the table and another three goals in Europe helped his side easily qualify as group winners in the Champions League. Last night he looked like being United's likely source when it came to finding a goal, and he twice came agonisingly close to adding a second for the Red Devils. First, he had a shot tipped onto the crossbar and then saw an angled drive tipped around the post by Lopez in what proved to be the last shot on target. Good saves or just unfortunate, you may argue, but a glaring error befell him late on when he found himself one on one with the goalkeeper only to completely miscue his shot which bobbled toward the goal-line but in the end was ultimately kept out by Alonso. Usually you'd have put your house on RVP scoring from there, and if you did last night, you'd now be homeless.
