Spurs: 10 Things Pochettino Must Do To Make His Side A Force Next Season

2. Keep Hold Of Key Players

One of Tottenham's big problems has been their inability to keep hold of their top players. This has been visible from the 1990's and through to the present: from Klinsmann and Sheringham, to Luka Modric and last summer with the sale of Gareth Bale. With the exception of the 2010-11 season when the club were competing in the promised land of the UEFA Champions League, Tottenham have always struggled to stave off the attention of the bigger teams. With this season's failure to achieve a top four place, Pochettino will have his work cut out giving the key players a reason to stay with the Lilywhites. Lloris, Paulinho and Eriksen are the three players who have already been linked to Champions League clubs and who could possibly be tempted away. Eriksen is the most likely of the three to stay, but both Lloris and Paulinho are highly rated and are competing in Brazil during the World Cup. Good performances from the duo could see their stock rise and become subject to more attention over the summer. If Pochettino is able to explain his philosophy and convince the team's key players of their role in the bigger picture, Spurs will have achieved something they have been unable to do for quite some time and start the season on the front foot.
