Spurs: 10 Things Pochettino Must Do To Make His Side A Force Next Season
5. Further Develop The Team, Particularly The Expensive Signings
Considering the large upheaval as a result of Gareth Bale leaving and seven new players coming in, it was not surprising Tottenham weren't a cohesive side. All seven had never played in England and they were going to take some time to adjust to the speed of our top league. While the team achieved a European spot, it wouldn't have helped their confidence that Tim Sherwood criticised the squad's quality on a regular basis. Developing the squad to improve on last season and boosting their confidence will be a big challenge this summer. Particular focus will be placed on how he gets the newest signings to show the potential that was seen in them. Only Paulinho and Christian Eriksen made a real impact. Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Vlad Chiriches and Etienne Capoue all had their moments, while little was seen of Erik Lamela to truly judge. It is too soon to right them off, but a strong start and some real guidance from a skilled coach is needed to unlock their potential. This is certainly achievable and both the fans and the board will be hoping to see these seven expensive signings shine. The truest test of any skilled coach is further advancing players who are already at the club. Pochettino arrived at Southampton when the club were struggling to avoid relegation and with minimal transfers, was able to take the team to the club's highest Premier League finish. Players like Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert achieved England call ups and as discussed earlier, several players are now the subject of big money transfer rumours. With the resources available at Tottenham, the fans will hope he can continue developing players and push Spurs on to the next level.
