Jan Vertonghen needs a reliable, top class and, most importantly, regular partner at Spurs - and that man could be Southampton's Croatian stopper Dejan Lovren. Michael Dawson has been a good servant to Spurs, but he has taken them as far as he can take them as club captain. He has never been a Champions League player anyway and he looks to be on his way out of the club this summer. Younes Kaboul is a top defender, but his persistent injuries mean he can't be relied upon for a full season. And Vlad Chiriches showed signs of being a good defender in his first season at Spurs, but he was prone to errors and may need a couple more seasons before he's ready to regularly appear. Lovren is a Croatia international who current Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino brought to Southampton a year ago, in an £8.5 million deal from French club Lyon, and he was fantastic in a season that saw Southampton finish eighth in the Premier League. He has been linked with a reunion with his former manager and Spurs fans would surely love to see him step out alongside Vertonghen in a new look defence against West Ham.
