Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham To Make £18 Million Roberto Soldado Bid?

Express. The 28-year-old has been on Spurs's radar for months and the Lilywhites are now prepared to pay what it takes to finally bring the saga to an end. Spurs missed out on a move for Barcelona's David Villa when the Spain international instead opted for a move to Atletico Madrid, but Soldado has always been in their sights. The former Real Madrid man netted 24 times in La Liga for Valencia last season to finish the campaign as Spain's fifth-highest goalscorer, while he also excelled at the Confederations Cup this summer. Tottenham yesterday completed the £7 million capture of Belgian winger Nacer Chadli from FC Twente, but a new striker has always been the priority for Villas-Boas in this transfer window. Both Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe are expected to be allowed to leave this summer as the Portuguese boss overhauls his front line ahead of the new season. At £18 million however, Spurs would be breaking their bank on Soldado. The previous biggest fee the Londoners outlaid on a player was the £17 million paid for David Bentley in 2008, and again for Paulinho this summer.
