3. A Foil
Having Soldado up front gives Spurs new tactical options going forward meaning that, as well as being a target man, he can also act as a foil for the likes of Gareth Bale (if he stays). When, for example, Bale was running forward last season, all eyes were on him. Players would double-up on him to stop his runs, knowing that the likely outcome was the Welshman cutting inside and letting rip with a long-range, left-footed thunderbolt. Now, he will have a genuine option to aim for in front of him in Soldado - a player who will need to be just as keenly marked as the superstar coveted by Real Madrid. This is good for two reasons; first, Bale has someone to pass to who is just as likely to score as him and second, with defenders having to keep a close eye on Soldado, the Spaniard could act as a great foil for the Welshman, creating extra space for him to open up his body and blast the ball in to the back of the net. Of course, the same applies to everyone else as well as Gareth Bale...
