2. A Target Man
As previously touched upon, Spurs now have a genuine target man to aim for up front. Soldado can poach, so you know that if you shoot and it gets rebounded, he'll be there to pick up the pieces. He can make runs, so you know that if you run in to a wall of defenders, he'll be creating space for you to pass in to. Perhaps most importantly, he can head a ball, so if you're out on the wing, you know that he'll be likely to get on the end of it if you bang one in to the box. He enables Spurs to explore a mix of new dimensions of play that they've been unable to do for years. With Defoe, you have the runs, but not the heading. With Adebayor, you have the heading, but not the runs. When Soldado is on the pitch, no matter where the ball comes from, if you target him, he can get on the end of it - the value of which is nigh on immeasurable.
