Spurs Transfers: 7 Players They Should Have Signed With The Bale Money
6. Toby Alderweireld
Spurs had long been linked with Toby Alderweireld in the build up to last summer's transfer window and it's a real shame they didn't pick him up. Instead of doing so, they allowed him to sign for Spanish side Atletico Madrid and purchased Romanian starlet Vlad Chiriches (Chiriches being an inferior player, having played at a poorer level and costing a similar amount to Alderweireld). Alderweireld is a Belgian central defender who can also play at right back, who Atletico signed from Ajax, where he was the former central defensive partner of current Spurs star Jan Vertonghen. To pick that partnership up again, now that the players have both developed their game, would be great for Spurs. Alderweireld, who is also a fellow Belgian international to Vertonghen, is extremely physically strong and very good at playing long balls forward. In essence, hes a cross between Vertonghen and fellow Spurs player Michael Dawson but with more time on his side, as he is only 25 years of age. He has struggled to really make a first team place his own at Atletico and was reportedly recently offered to Napoli. If theyre that keen to get rid of him, Spurs should snap their hands off - but they really should have ensured he was their's last summer.
