Sunderland Transfers: 5 Signings Black Cats Still Need To Make

1. Eduardo Vargas

In recent developments, it appears Sunderland may be weighing up a shock move for Vargas, who was excellent for Chile during the World Cup. In honesty, it is rather surprising that Poyet has not been linked to more South American stars from the summer tournament - given his nationality - but this rumour may have some legs beyond simple lazy geographical assumption. The 24 year old, who scored the winner for Chile against Spain, would be a very exciting and dynamic purchase for Sunderland as the current Napoli striker would add pace and skill up front for Sunderland. With other clubs interested in Eduardo Vargas, reportedly including Arsenal, the Black Cats may have a battle on our hands if the interest is genuine but it certainly shows ambition from Congerton to be linked to this type of player. Vargas, who played for Valencia on loan last season, would excite the fans at the Stadium of Light and adds more pace to a team that has seen van Aanholt and Rodwell also inject pace and urgency to the starting eleven.
