UFC: Ranking George St. Pierre's 12 Title Fight Wins
3. GSP vs. Matt Hughes II
GSP and Matt Huges had a trilogy of fights throughout the champ's career. The first was an early career title shot for GSP that came after just a handful of fights in the promotion at UFC 50. GSP wasn't ready, and lost the fight via submission, as Hughes, the reigning champ, locked in an arm-bar. The loss was one of only two GSP would suffer in his career. Leading into their rematch, GSP would state in the octagon at UFC 63 that he was "not impressed" with Hughes victory earlier in the night. It was an appearance designed to hype their upcoming bout, and it worked - with the added benefit of getting under Hughes' skin. Their second fight would be much different. Near the end of the first round, GSP nearly finished champion Hughes with a superman punch. Hughes escaped the round, but GSP floored him early in the second with a head kick, swarmed with punches and finished the fight, winning the welterweight title in the process.
