Doctor Who: 9 Reasons Why Peter Jackson Directing Is A Brilliant Idea

5. Jackson€™s Work Exhibits a Deep, Underlying Belief in the Importance of Character

In the €œLord of the Rings€ Trilogy it€™s not the gorgeous locations, incredible costumes and sets, or fabulous special effects that truly draw us in, but the subtle complex character arc of two hobbits simply trying to do the right thing. Doctor Who directors must always remember that above and beyond anything else this is a myth about a madman in a box. The €œWho€ universe is filled with memorable characters who change and grow over time €“ Captain Jack, Donna Noble, Wilf, Brian and many, many more. The Doctor is a lonely, complicated god on an epic journey and while his adventures are thrilling, it is the man and his connection with his companions that anchors the story. Peter Jackson could have gone in many different directions with €œLord of the Rings€ but he chose to focus on the characters, following a thread that revealed the gift of friendship and the consequences of giving our hearts and loyalty to another no matter the cost.
