3. Andy Carroll Went Through The Door He Was Shown

There was a lot of talk about Andy Carroll being forced out of Newcastle when he was sold from under Alan Pardew a few years back, but the truth is that the striker was merely shown the door by the club's owners, he did not have to go through it to Liverpool. Yes, there probably was some pressure on him with the transfer fee being so high, but the Gateshead-born striker was contracted to the club and time was on his side as the last hours of the transfer window ebbed close. He could and should have stayed and built his profile at Newcastle, rather than going to Liverpool to compete with Luis Suarez for top billing in a situation that he could never have hoped to emerge victorious from. Carroll's decision to join Liverpool was nothing short of disastrous for all parties - other than Newcastle ironically - and as the player now faces the prospect of being West Ham's fourth choice striker, as Newcastle fans continue to entertain the idea of him coming home.
