10 Players Who Proved Life Isn't Always Better After Newcastle
6. Kieron Dyer
Dyer swapped Newcastle for London as he completed a £6 million move to West Ham in 2007, even after the transfer was initially cancelled. A move to the capital was the main reason behind this deal for the former England international, who played exactly 250 games for The Magpies. However, just ten days after his debut in the claret and blue, he was stretchered off after a tackle by Joe Jacobson in a League Cup match against Bristol Rovers that resulted in his right leg being broken in two places. Obviously there is nothing the brittle Dyer could have done about this, it could have happened if he was in the black and white of Newcastle. But then again, he wouldn't have been in Bristol on that fateful night if he stayed put... (Maybe I'm clutching at straws.) The midfielder made 34 appearances in four years for The Hammers before joining QPR where his career descended into nothingness, or a move to Middlesbrough as that's otherwise known. It is well and truly up in the air how many games Dyer would have played under Sam Allardyce as he isn't the now former West Ham manager's type of player. However, if his career on Newcastle up until Big Sam's appointment was anything to go by then Kieron would have found himself as one of the main men in the United side, with a suitable platform to attract interest from the national selectors.
