10 Worst Ever Premier League Refereeing Mistakes

1. Kieran Gibbs & Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, 2014

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1K4hrDf65Ww You literally have to see this mistake to believe it. On this list we've seen incorrect offside decisions, goals erroneously disallowed and as blatant a handball as you will ever see in professional football. But never, until 2014, had the Premier League era witnessed a case of mistaken identity. In March this year Arsenal were humiliated 6-0 by a rampant Chelsea but more embarrassing than even that scoreline was the performance of referee Andre Marriner. The dreadful incident occurred as Eden Hazard sent a shot goal-bound, only for Gunners midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to suddenly turn goalkeeper and dive to save the shot with his hand. A straight red card, you might think? Correct - only Marriner sent off THE WRONG PERSON. Instead, the blundering official gave a bewildered Kieran Gibbs his marching orders while Oxlade-Chamberlain was allowed to stay on the pitch. It was an error of monumental proportions the like of which we had never seen in the Premiership. Should'a gone to Specsavers, Andre... What do you think are the biggest refereeing mistakes of the Premier League era? Did we miss any out? Share your thoughts in the comments thread, below.
