10 Youth Prospects Who Could Change Arsenal's Future

4. Ryo Miyaichi

While still in high school, Miyaichi was invited for numerous trials across Europe, and after featuring for both Arsenal and Ajax, he opted for North London. He signed in 2010 and, in what must have seemed slightly surreal circumstances, found himself playing in the Eredivisie anyway, at Feyenoord. It's possible that even Arsene couldn't have anticipated the impact made by his young prospect as Miyaichi became a fan favourite and had the Dutch press salivating at his precocious ability. A natural-born winger, Miyaichi is able to play on both flanks and although right-footed, his left is pretty deadly too. You could describe him as an old-fashioned winger, similar in some ways to Adam Johnson - just significantly better. He runs at a defender whenever the chance presents itself and his speed makes him a very real threat. Despite being an attacker, Miyaichi also has an excellent work-rate and does not need telling twice to track back and help defensively. He has since had a couple of unsuccessful loan spells in the Premier League and hasn't lit up the Emirates when he has made an appearance. He is still at a tender age though and any doubting fans should cast their mind back to the transformation of a very disappointing to lethal Theo Walcott. The Japanese winger may need one more loan spell in the top flight or a season of cameo appearances and training with the first team in order to fulfil his potential.
