11 Spurs Signings Who Were Absolute Bargains

1. Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale cost Spurs around £7 million when he joined from Southampton in 2007.

For the first couple of years, he was actually branded a flop - so much so that he was linked with budget moves to clubs like Birmingham City! However, when Harry Redknapp pushed him further up the field - from left back to left wing and the position behind the striker - he really came in to his own. In the 2012-13 season, Bale undoubtedly won or salvaged matches individually - earning the club a hell of a lot of league points on his own - and it was those performances that led to a club of Real Madrid€™s size paying a world record transfer fee of £85.3 million for the Welshman (which really does make the fee Spurs paid for him seem like nothing). Spurs fans will also always remember his incredible Champions League hat-trick against Italian side Inter Milan - which were value for his transfer fee in themselves. Spurs lost the match 4-3 but, at 4-0 down and down to ten men at half-time, Bale€™s heroic individual attempt at a comeback can only be admired and remembered fondly. So there you have it - eleven Spurs signings who were absolute bargains. Did you enjoy this article? Do you agree that the players in this list were bargains?
