12 WTF Moments In Newcastle's Disastrous 14/15 Season

4. Sunderland's Plane

Imagine your team were staring relegation squarely in the face at the end of another season defined only by taking 6 points off your closest rivals (a parasitic relationship, if ever there was one). What would be your natural response?

If you're a certain kind of Sunderland fan, your reaction would be to commission a plane to fly over Newcastle's game with Spurs with "5 In A Row" trailing from the tail.

The Mackem minority seemed to revel in the fact that they had strung an unprecedented five victories together (when in fact a poor Newcastle team did the same thing about 10 years ago), while ignoring their own perilous situation. If it wasn't an exchange between the North East's two biggest teams, you'd think it impossible.

Hilariously, though they confirmed their safety earlier, Sunderland still finished below Newcastle, and were it not for those six points, would have been relegated. If that's something to celebrate, then maybe there's something fundamentally wrong.

It's an unfortunate thing that there are some Sunderland fans - and indeed some Newcastle ones - who quantify success only in terms of their closest rivals. And the minute that Top Dogs garbage is dropped the better.
