1. France

Edinson Cavani to PSG for ‚64 million. Radamel Falcao to Monaco for ‚60 million. James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho to Monaco for ‚70 million combined. Marquinhos to PSG for ‚31.4 million. Crazy money! Absolutely insane money! The French Ligue 1 is trying to regain its status as one of the world€™s top leagues, with billionaire owners pumping insane amounts of cash into the two top teams. Each transfer above was interesting. Cavani turned town England to sign for PSG. Falcao went to Monaco, but then the story broke out that his birth certificate might have been faked, and he might be a few years older than everybody thought. Porto broke up the transfers of Rodriguez and Moutinho so that Rodriguez cost ‚45 million, and Moutinho cost ‚25 million, so that Sporting CP would receive less money from the Moutinho transfer. And, finally, Marquinhos is only 19 and has only played about 30 club games in his entire career. Each big-money transfer represents a major risk, but there could also be major rewards. It€™s surprising that all of the aforementioned players signed for 2 teams in a subpar league, at least in comparison to Germany, Spain, and England. Know of a different surprising transfer?
