Current Club: Real Madrid Despite being seen as a traditionally French club, Arsenal have quietly been building up their German influence - following their former trend of picking up World Cup winners and employing them domestically to success - with a host of German internationals playing in North London. That might be why the press have jumped so enthusiastically on the possibility of Wenger completing a deal to bring World Cup winner, and Germany's unsung talisman Sami Khedira to England. Khedira's will-he-won't-he prospective move to Arsenal has been one of the least fruitful extended episodes of the summer, with no movement, despite suggestions, amidst whispers of grand financial requirements that would require the reinvention of the club's wage structure. And now with William Carvalho close to joining Arsenal, it looks less likely that Khedira would sign, though of course the two could co-exist at the base of Wenger's midfield, with Aaron Ramsey ahead of them, Sanchez and Ozil out wide and a single striker up top. He would bring a lot more than defensive steel anyway, and is the type of on-field leader that Arsenal have missed in recent years. Will He Sign? A couple of weeks back it looked a certainty, but the smarter bet now might be on Khedira running his contract down at Madrid and joining Bayern Munich next summer for nothing (with a windfall reflected in his contract).
