Arsenal: 10 Best Premier League Era Players (Who Appeared Less Than 100 Times)

1. Nicolas Anelka

Last, and by no means least, we have Le Sulk. His tabloid nickname aside, Anelka helped to fire Arsenal to the Premier League and FA Cup double achieved in 1998. Then a talented and no less temperamental teenager, Anelka was picked up in February 1997 by Wenger for Paris Saint-Germain and repaid the faith shown in him by his compatriot. Profiting from injury to Ian Wright, Anelka came into the Gunners team and scored the second in the FA Cup final of 1998. Le Sulk then led the scoring charts in 1998-99 with 19 goals in all competitions. Arsenal played second fiddle to Manchester United on all fronts then, however, as the Red Devils won an unprecedented treble. The press and fans turned on Anelka despite his exploits in front of goal and he left for Real Madrid. Since leaving the Gunners, Anelka has led a nomadic existence staying longest at London rivals Chelsea. He also played in Spain, Italy, Turkey and even China. A return of 28 goals in 90 games may not look like much, but Anelka was the PFA Young Player of the Year in 1999. He also counts Manchester City, Liverpool and Bolton Wanderers among his former club and is currently at West Bromwich Albion. Who is your favourite Arsenal player? Have your say below.
