Liverpool vs Chelsea: 5 Key Battles

1. Diego Costa vs Liverpool's Centre-Backs

As mentioned previously, much has been made of Liverpool's leaky defence. Although the full-backs have struggled at times, it has been the centre-backs who have been most to blame. On Saturday they face one of the world's most in-form strikers in Costa, and he will cause them problems all afternoon. Dejan Lovren looks set to be dropped again in favour of Kolo Toure, following the Ivorian's magnificent display in Madrid on Tuesday, and the 33-year-old must show that that wasn't just a one-off fluke of a performance. Alongside him will likely be Martin Skrtel, who is far from the most convincing defender at the moment. The Slovakian is very guilty of being overly physical and rash, and that will be very risky against Costa. The Brazilian-turned-Spaniard knows every trick in the book, and is Skrtel's nightmare opponent in a lot of ways. Aerially the defence is extremely suspect, especially from corners, and Chelsea's imposing team will really fancy their chances. None more so than Costa. The former Atletico Madrid striker has the potential to bully Skrtel and Toure from start to finish- Lovren even more so if he starts- and don't be surprised if the 26-year-old ends up being the match-winner on the day.
