Liverpool's 10 Greatest Champions League Victories

1. Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan- Liverpool win 3-2 on penalties (2005)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_yO2_mjP34 This must surely go down as the greatest night in Liverpool's history, and is also the most remarkable European Cup final ever. AC Milan were a sensational side at the time, and their starting XI was surely one of the most decorated ever. With Cafu, Alessandro Nesta, Jaap Stam and Paolo Maldini at the back, Andrea Pirlo, Gennaro Gattuso, Clarence Seedorf and Kaka in midfield and Hernan Crespo and Andriy Shevchenko in attack, it was a ridiculous team. The Reds had Djimi Traore. Benitez's side fell behind after barely a minute, as Maldini fired past Jerzy Dudek. Hernan Crespo's ruthless double put Carlo Ancelotti's side 3-0 up at half-time, and it was turning into the stuff of nightmares for anyone associated with Liverpool. At the break, however, Didi Hamann came on, Gerrard was released from his shackles and suddenly the game began to change. The captain headed past Dida to make it 3-1, Vladimir Smicer thumped an effort past the Brazilian to make it 3-2 and Alonso scored a rebound after his initial penalty had been saved, as the Reds made it 3-3 just six minutes after trailing 3-0. It was unfathomable. The game went into extra-time, and it was simply a case of whether Liverpool's tired players could hold on for penalties. They did, and a shootout would decide the winner. Serginho and Pirlo both missed for Milan, while Hamann and Djibril Cisse both scored, and although Riise missed his effort, by the time Shevchenko faced Dudek, the legendary Ukrainian had to score. The Pole saved his spot-kick though, and the most incredible victory in Liverpool's history was complete. It will take some beating in years to come.
