Man Utd Transfer News: Axel Witsel To Cost £23.5 Million

Manchester United are preparing to make a £23.5 million bid for Benfica midfielder Axel Witsel.

According to Portuguese source O Jogo, Manchester United are preparing to make a £23.5 million bid for Benfica midfielder Axel Witsel. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been scouting Witsel for a while now and after losing out on the Lucas Moura deal, he is presumably desperate for the signing to go through. The 23-year-old Belgian international is seen as a star of the future and with United certainly lacking in the midfielder department, it is obvious why Sir Alex is so interested in the Benfica star. Manchester United have already completed the signing of Nick Powell and Shinji Kagawa and despite being in financial trouble rumours suggest that Sir Alex still has around £20 million left of his transfer budget. Whilst Robin van Persie is still a possibility for the club, Sir Alex had been chasing Moura and van Persie at the same time which suggests there may be more money for the squad then the media knows about.
