1. Lars Bender
Paul Scholes and Lars Bender share one thing in common. The strikers in front of them have often made the headlines for scoring the goals that they themselves created. Both have been quietly efficient for their respective sides United and Borussia Dortmund over the years with each of them pulling the strings from the middle of the park. Bender has been an integral cog in Dortmund's two Bundesliga-winning campaigns but not so this season; Injuries have limited him to 17 domestic appearances this term but many point to his absence as the reason why Jurgen Klopp's side so easily surrendered their German crown this year. He has great technical ability, is composed on the ball and is incredibly intelligent - who does that remind you of? He is seen by many as the perfect replacement for Scholes due to the fact he dominates the midfield so easily. This season,
77% of his 70 attempted tackles were won, 11/12 of his attempted take-ons were successful, as were 60% of his 40 headed duels.
United need players with abilities such as these in their midfield next season. Do you agree? Who would you like to see replace Paul Scholes at Old Trafford? Let us know in the comment section, below.
