Man Utd vs Real Sociedad: 5 Big Decisions Moyes Must Get Right

2. To Attack Or Exercise Patience?

After making a superb start to their Champions League campaign by comfortably dispatching Bayer Leverkusen, a draw in Donestsk in their second game means there can't be too many more slip-ups. A season or two ago, a match against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford may have seen like an undisputed three-pointer, but the Theatre of Dreams isn't exactly as impenetrable as it once was. Sides of the like of West Brom and Southampton have visited United in their own back yard and showed that, if you take the game to the champions, they're not as surefooted on home soil as they perhaps once were. The Red Devils have only won at Old Trafford three times in six attempts this season, and Sociedad will jet into Manchester perhaps holding the opinion there's a chance for them to get something out of this game. United need a win to restore faith, not just in themselves but in manager David Moyes, who has been fending off critics left, right and centre in recent weeks. But they should take heed before throwing caution to the wind. The last time a Basque club visited Old Trafford, Athletic Bilbao proved that taking the game to United worked, as they dominated and won both legs of their Europa League fixture with ease, netting a number of goals.
