Newcastle: 5 Things We Learnt From Stoke Victory

1. Newcastle Are Probably Safe, Stoke Might Not Be Yet

alan pardew Sunday was a huge result for Newcastle. They are now 9 points clear of the drop and are on an upwards trajectory, getting a run of form together for the first time this season. The same can€™t be said for Stoke though who are also 9 points clear but have the worst form of any Premier League team in 2013. Newcastle will finally beginning to feel a bit comfortable in the league. They have come in to for at the perfect time and the new signings and return of players from injury has really buoyed them. The performances of Cabaye, Sissoko, Debuchy etc. should mean they have far too much quality to be relegated. They also finally have Papiss Cisse picking up some form, scoring in both his last two home matches. The new depth enabled to them by the new signings means they have quality players like Marveaux on the bench who can come on and impact games, like he did with his beautiful pass on Sunday. Sunday was a hugely positive result for Newcastle and only a disaster could see them relegated now. Their fixtures are relatively ok also, with only a trip to The Etihad looking particularly daunting. They can maybe now concentrate on the Europa League and bringing their fans much deserved silverware. Stoke on the other hand may have some worrying to do. Their form is awful at the moment and you could see why on Sunday. There was no creativity in the side and the defensive security from earlier in the season has gone. Michael Owen took to Twitter to call that their best performance of the season and if that is true you really worry for The Potters. They still have to play Villa, QPR, Sunderland and Southampton and with the teams below them desperate for points these matches could see Stoke pulled in to the relegation scrap. It could be a nervy end to the season for Stoke, with their form as bad as it is they will only continue to fall down the table and they may get dragged in to an unwanted relegation scrap.
