Newcastle Transfers: 10 French Bargains Pardew Should Target In January

1. André-Pierre Gignac

Club: Marseille Newcastle have been credited as long-term admirers of the Marseille forward, who has so far scored 10 goals in 11 games for Marcelo Bielsa's side and currently sits on top of the top scorers list for Ligue 1. And with his contract expiring this summer, now could be the best and most likely time to strike: if he can be convinced to sign a pre-contract, he could be brought in early as Moussa Sissoko was, and even forcing Marseille's hand with a few million pounds in January might tempt them into cashing in early to get his wages off the bill and a nice little injection to help sign a replacement. Likelihood Newcastle - along with, surprise surprise, Arsenal - have been put on alert over Gignac as Marseille are conceding that they probably cannot afford to keep him thanks to their strict wage structure (the same one that will probably see Ayew leave too). Because of changes to French tax law, Gignac would have to agree to a lower wage to stay, and that might play into the notoriously frugal hands of Newcastle's higher level management. Of all of this list, he's probably the most likely target.
