Newcastle Transfers: 5 Reasons Pardew MUST Get Rid Of Papiss Cisse

4. He Had More Chances Than Arsenal

Last year, Cisse scored just 2 goals in 24 appearances for Newcastle, as the side slumped to a ridiculous, embarrassing second half of the season run that ultimately made their 10th place finish look remarkably fortuitous. You would be forgiven for expecting that Newcastle spectacularly failed to string many incisive passes together, or cause any opposition sides too many real problems - especially since the media dived on Cabaye's departure as the cause of the team's decline - but you'd be wrong. Newcastle actually managed to create a massive number of chances, especially in relation to the sides at the top of the league in terms of minutes per chance created. Only Chelsea (5.2), Manchester City (5.4), Liverpool (5.5) and Tottenham (6.1) took fewer minutes to produce an effort on goal on average, but the difference was prolificness in front of goal. Loic Remy did go some way to taking advantage of those chances, but when Cisse was in, Newcastle simply didn't take advantage of a rate of chances that beat both Man Utd and Arsenal. That plainly is not good enough, and it is the chances that are taken that truly matter.
