1. Siem de Jong
In what would be quite a sensational capture for Alan Pardew, Newcastle have been linked with a move for Ajax captain Siem de Jong, who has been found in fine form for the Eredivisie champions so far this season. de Jong has scored 7 times in 18 appearances in the Eredivisie this season, and featured in his clubs Champions League campaign in the so called Group of Death against the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. He netted three times in the group stages, including one against City, and Roberto Mancinis men ultimately crashed out of the competition. However, he has two years remaining on his Ajax contract, and sources in Holland claim the player is eager to run down the deal and then move on a free. Pardew and his team of scouts now face the challenge of persuading him to change his mind and convince him that now is the time for his move to the Premier League if there is to be a shock deadline-day move.
