Newcastle United: 5 Managers To Replace Alan Pardew

4. Roberto Di Matteo

The Chelsea fan-favourite and Champions League winner has been out of a job since becoming the latest victim of the Stamford Bridge managerial merry-go-round earlier in the season, some would say unfairly. But with a new season to prepare for this summer he may be persuaded to make a return to the dug-out should a big job become available. Newcastle is certainly a big job for any manager. Like Chelsea, Di Matteo would have deal with the high expectations of fans and a controversial boss. But he's handled that once before, and, despite a poor league campaign after taking over from Mr Boas - a Drogba-led Chelsea team won their first ever Champions League trophy against all the odds. Despite being let go that is a tremendous accomplishment to have on any footballing CV. He would also be given the chance to work with some talented, under-performing players once again with a decent transfer budget to boot. Although Newcastle don't splash the cash in the same way they did a few years ago, they're still willing to get the cheque book out if the right player becomes available at a decent price, as they did with the likes of Sissoko and Gouffran in January. Besides Chelsea, it is likely that Newcastle or Everton will become the highest profile jobs available in the summer - Di Matteo could do much worse than a club such as this.
