Newcastle United: 7 Exciting Youth Prospects

7. Curtis Good

Very little is known about Curtis Good, an Australian centre-back signed from Melbourne Heart this summer for $600,000 AUD. Last season was a break-out year for the 19-year-old who made 25 appearances for the A-League side and established himself as a player with great promise. Signed to a mammoth 6-year contract the player must be highly thought of by both Carr and Pardew Centre back is a position Newcastle seem to have been weak in for many seasons, although the Magpies first choice pair of captain Fabricio Collocini and Steven Taylor are easily of top-6 quality, an injury to either of them (or both God forbid) would make Newcastle€™s backline look distinctly mediocre. Mike Williamson is the only senior recognised centre-back on the books (although James Perch can deputise). Should the worst happen Good could have some big boots to fill, depending upon his performances in the Europa League and the Capital One Cup he may well rise above Perch in the CB pecking order. Although scoring goals isn€™t a problem for the U-21 side (11 in 3 games is pretty healthy) conceding them has been the side yet to register a clean sheet and conceding 4 against Tottenham when the game looked won. Perhaps the move halfway around the world has unsettled Good but as the saying goes; In Carr We Trust.
