Manchester City will turn their attention to Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini to strengthen their defence next season after being turned down by seemingly Spurs bound Jan Vertonghen. The Premier League champions are desperate to add a new centre back alongside Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott next season and are now monitoring Coloccini after Ajax's giant Belgian defender said "no" to a £10 million move to Eastlands. City are hoping the strong Argentinean connection already at City with Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Pablo Zabaleta, plus the opportunity to play in the Champions League and win trophies might persuade Newcastle's star defender to make the switch. The 30-year-old defender is known to happy on Tyneside and has just signed a lucrative contract extension that further cemented him as The Magpies' highest paid player, so it would take a huge offer to turn Colo's head into a move. Daily Star reports that City boss Roberto Mancini wouldn't usually target a player over 30 to make a big move for but he has been impressed by the Newcastle captain and believes his experience could be invaluable next season.
