Next Newcastle Manager: 10 Favourites To Replace Alan Pardew

6. Christoph Galtier (20-1)

Status: Saint-Etienne boss Linked with replacing Alan Pardew at the end of last season for a few Media frenzied days, St. Etienne boss Christoph Galtier finds himself sitting pretty as the sixth favourite for the job currently. The 47-year-old has enjoyed a steady and fruitful five seasons in France, winning the French League Cup last term and incredibly guiding his side to fourth in Ligue 1 this year, delivering Champions League football. He managed this all on a shoe-string budget and a rebuilding job after the sale of star striker and one time Newcastle target Pierre Aubameyang, something Pardew himself struggled to do when star players like Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye left. He is known for his free-flowing, attacking football and for always banking on a well-organised defence. That would be music to Newcastle's ears if he could bring that to St. James' Park. Just like the players chief scout Graham Carr manages to find on the continent, Galtier could be an astute hiring over more expensive English coaches. Looking like Jose Mourinho, he could be a hidden gem from a country Newcastle have found so many of their players from. United's last foreign coach was Rudd Gullit's disastrous spell in the late 90s... but maybe it is time to try and give another type of French flavoured sexy football a go.
