Premier League: 10 January Transfers That Make Sense
5. Newcastle To Sign Luuk de Jong
With the future of Loic Remy still up in the air, Newcastle are trying to sign another striker this month. Remy has been brilliant for the Magpies this season but there's always the chance he may yet return to parent club QPR, which is just one of the reasons why manager Alan Pardew is trying to land Luuk de Jong. Newcastle have a long-standing interest in de Jong, currently with German side Borussia Monchengladbach, and are keen to bring the Netherlands international in on an initial loan deal. de Jong has not settled well in the Bundesliga since his move to Monchengladbach and the Magpies are said to be confident of securing his services for the remainder of the season, and then possibly longer. This is sensible as there is always the risk he may not fit in, and if he does, Newcastle will have bedded in a Remy replacement should he leave the north east this summer.
