Premier League Transfers: 5 Defensive Players Bigger Clubs Should Target

1. Gareth Barry (Everton) I have left the most interesting selection until last, since Gareth Barry is technically a Manchester City player still. However, we all have to accept that his future is uncertain at best in Manchester after their spending in the summer. Everton have surprised a lot of pundits so far this season by performing at a higher level than any expectations might have suggested was possible, and a lot of that has been down to some astute transfers made by new manager Roberto Martinez. The most surprising thing about the Toffees this season is the ability from a defensive point of view. Along with Southampton, Everton have the best defensive record and have conceded only 15 goals this season. I think it€™s clear that a big part of that success is down to the great defensive work that Barry has been doing so far this season. It€™s certainly food for thought out there for the big clubs to consider the sort of impact he could make. For instance, Manchester United might be wondering if he could provide part of the answer to their current problems. Barry has had an average rating of 7.45 this season, making him the 21st most in form player in the league. Which defensive players do you think should draw the attention of bigger clubs during the winter transfer window? Share your picks below in the comments thread.
