World Cup 2014: 4 Colombian Strikers That Could Cover For Radamel Falcao

1. Fredy Montero

Club: Sporting Lisbon Age: 26 Caps: 4 International goals: 1 Last Colombia appearance: February 2009 v Haiti When it comes to Major League Soccer, we in Britain can be something of football snobs. So too, it seems, are Colombians. Montero has mostly plied his trade in the United States with Seattle Sounders since 2009. A haul of 60 goals in 160 games in the MLS alerted Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese giants have mustered very little response to Porto's domestic dominance in recent years, so this past summer they took a punt on Montero. It's one gamble that has paid off. Anything Jackson Martinez can do for Porto, so Montero has matched it for Sporting this term. These two Colombian frontman sit level as leading scorers in the Portuguese top flight with 13 apiece. Montero is on course to break the 20-goal barrier in all competitions and thus put together his best ever season as a professional footballer. Surely Pekerman cannot ignore this late push for a place on the World Cup roster? What counts against Montero is that it has been almost five years since he last pulled on a Colombia jersey. Several national coaches have ignored his claims, undoubtedly taking a dim view of his exploits in the USA. Montero has proven he can do it in Europe though, so if Falcao is out why not play a wildcard? Would it be wise of Jose Pekerman to gamble on the fitness of Radamel Falcao for the World Cup? Do Colombia have enough strikers to cover his absence? Who would you like to see lead their attack? Have your say below.
