10 Embarrassments That Made Newcastle A Laughing Stock

6. Joe Kinnear Rings Talksport, Scouts Own Player

The embarrassments attached to Joe Kinnear alone would run into several columns in their own right: he called one player Insomnia and another Kebab, he made claims of being brilliant and then he failed miserably to be a Director of Football in the most spectacular manner. Between calling respected national journalists "c*nts", Kinnear somehow build a reputation with Mike Ashley as an asset to the club, and even after he had to give up his job thanks to heart disease, the owner decided he was still worth another punt. That second spell began even worse than the other: the appointment itself was pretty laughable from the outside, but he then rang Talksport to say why he was worthy of the job and made some legendarily bold claims. And then, after he hung up he spent almost eight months disproving them, including scouting one of his own players at Birmingham City while he was on loan.
