1. Mbemba Might Not Just Be A Centre-Back On Tyneside
Chancel Mbemba is not officially a Newcastle United player yet. They have signed him subject to a work permit - which will be granted this week - but technically he still isn't registered as a Toon player. So when Anderlecht agreed to allow the Democratic Republic of Congo international to play on Saturday, everyone expected Mbemba to appear off the bench as a centre-back. Steve McClaren, though, had alternative ideas. Mbemba replaced Daryl Janmaat with half-an-hour to go and filled in at right-back. The 20-year-old has played there before but, with Newcastle's issues most pressing at centre-back, this seemed a strange move. Surely giving Mbemba gametime in the position he is so desperately needed ahead of the opening Premier League fixture with Southampton on Sunday makes the most sense? Well apparently not to Newcastle...
