9. Man United 0-0 Exeter City, 2005
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piQWsEtY4eQ Its not often that a draw sneaks its way into a list of this kind, but its worth remembering who Exeter were when they arrived at Old Trafford for an FA Cup third-round tie in January 2005. They were a non-league outfit, and one of their star players was a former Manchester United apprentice in Andy Taylor. This was the kind of game where Old Trafford would have expected their side to run up a cricket score, regardless of personnel. Instead, not even the introduction of Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes midway through the second half could break down the resolute Conference side, as Man United flailed in their efforts to bag even just the one goal. It wasnt just one-way traffic either, as Exeter had their chances through a Taylor free-kick and a Dean Moxey strike. The most worrying aspect about this game, however, was the lack of urgency from a Man United starting XI which should have had players chomping at the bit to show the manager what they could do, having been restricted to the bench for much of the campaign. Instead, their only meaningful effort in the first half came via a David Bellion free-kick and a Ronaldo drive late in the second half. They were the FA Cup holders and they could only manage a goalless draw with a side from the Conference - very uninspiring, but in typical Ferguson fashion, he rallied the troops and they reached the final, where they really should have won a successive Cup.
