11 Bizarre Transfer Stories Involving Newcastle United

1. Newcastle Sabotaged Cisse's Move To Sunderland

The Claim Papiss Cisse was due to sign for Sunderland, as the Black Cats had stolen a march on their North East rivals by flying him in to the North East for talks. Unfortunately for them, there's no airport on Wearside and when he landed at Newcastle, the club were there to hurry him away to their talks and convince him to sign for the Magpies instead. The Truth Martin O'Neill denied anything of the sort had happened. Despite the reports that Sunderland were trying to sneak in with a bid, the Irishman said Cisse was never in their sights:
"News was filtering through here that he had turned us down - I'm afraid we hadn't made any enquires for the player at all. Good as he is, we hadn't done so."
Still, it's too good a story to let go just yet. Which of these stories is your favourite? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
