Arsenal Transfers: 5 Players Wenger Must Buy To Catch United

3. Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini Apart from centre-forward, a position which most fans would agree needs reinforcing in the Arsenal team is defensive midfield. In short, there appears to be no better signing to be made in that area than Marouane Fellaini. The big Belgian has improved in the league season upon season, with last campaign being the one in which he announced himself as one of the top flight's finest footballers. He posesses frankly frightening natural attributes: height, strength and pace as well as technical skill. He is capable of single-handedly shutting down the central midfield area, as he demonstrated against Arsenal last season, providing a near-impenetrable shield in front of the defence. While Arsenal's defence improved markedly last season, one would think that the addition of a truly world class defensive midfielder such as Fellaini could reduce their 'goals conceded' column even further. The prospect of a midfield trio consisting of Fellaini, Wilshere and Cazorla is enough to make any fan dream of silverware and should be a considerable march stolen on Arsenal's rivals. The transfer appears relatively simple too, with Fellaini apparently having a £25 million release clause, Wenger knows what must be done but as yet it is up to him to do it.
